Serving as a Stewards VISTA leader is a unique and exciting opportunity to meet and work with a diverse group of people from non-profit, educational, and government sectors of society, and broaden one’s understanding of America's communities, organizations, and landscapes. Additionally, VISTA Leaders will have the opportunity to be engaged with exciting projects across the country that address issues such as food security, community resilience, education and jobs development, and legacy mining impacts.
AmeriCorps VISTAs, AmeriCorps State and National members, and Peace Corps volunteers who have completed 365 days of service (or 1700 hours) are eligible for the position. Many Stewards VISTA projects are supported through unique partnerships with government agencies and bureaus in both rural and urban communities across the country. The support provided to these projects by Stewards VISTA Leaders is mostly remote, with consistent and frequent communication through email, phone, and others. Agencies that support Stewards VISTAs include the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE), Department of Interior (DOI) and Tribal Colleges and Universities, to name a few. Stewards has successfully placed hundreds of VISTAs at sites across the country.

Member Duties : Stewards VISTA Leaders: travel for site visits and conduct member check-in calls; act as a main connection for VISTAs to engage one another; offer resources to VISTAs in the field; attend conferences with several VISTAs in attendance and organize member training sessions; assist in program administration as it relates to VISTA support to increase efficiency and create best practices; and address any VISTA issues that occur in collaboration with support office staff. Stewards VISTA leaders gain experience and skills in organizational development, mentorship, diplomacy, outreach and communications, networking, and leadership.
Stewards VISTA Leaders excel at being self-motivated, utilizing their knowledge and experience to support projects that connect economic opportunity and environmental stewardship. This position is based in Beckley, WV. This position works in collaboration with other VISTA leaders.
