OVERVIEW :
Berkshire Botanical Garden (BBG) is seeking an Assistant Camp Director for Farm in the Garden Camp, a summer day camp for children ages 5-14 held on the beautiful grounds of the Berkshire Botanical Garden, in historic Stockbridge, MA. Campers at Farm in the Garden Camp care for farm animals, harvest food they grow themselves, and participate in a wide range of activities. The camp is small by design, and runs for eight weeks, following a week-long staff training. Berkshire Botanical Garden will comply with all state and federal COVID guidelines, including social distancing, mask wearing, and increased cleaning procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Camp Director in pre-camp responsibilities including: camper registration forms, organizing program supplies and spaces, and planning staff training.
Serve as lead educator and lead camp sessions throughout the summer.
Assist the Camp Director in leading staff training and ongoing staff development throughout the summer.
Provide day to day support and leadership for camp staff and campers.
During staff training week support the educators with lessons and curriculum development.
Assist with animal chores, garden tasks, and materials management.
Assist in documenting camp activities through photography and note-taking.
Assist in other areas as asked by the Camp Director and Director of Education.
Become a secondary Health Care Supervisor assisting in administering First Aid, Medication minimal health care when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience working with children. *required
Previous experience in a camp, school, or similar setting. *required
A marked ability to plan programs and conduct activities.
Willingness to take initiative, solve problems, assess priorities and manage a variety of tasks calmly and effectively.
Experience with gardening, farming, or ecology.
Experience with classroom and behavior management preferred.
An abundance of patience for working with children as well as a good sense of humor.
Must acquire CPR/First Aid certification before the first day of camp. Certification available through BBG prior to staff training.
Be highly responsible, self-motivated, flexible, and capable of working outside all day,
strong work ethic.
Be able to successfully pass a background check (CORI/SORI).
Graduated high school or equivalent.



DURATION OF EMPLOYMENT, REQUIRED HOURS AND SALARY
Dates of Employment: Monday, June 7, 2021 through Wednesday, August 25th, 2021
Hours/Salary: 38 hours per week during camp, $16.50 per hour
