The Assistant Director of Camp Chewonki for Boys is an experienced educator who embraces a place-based and experiential approach to teaching and learning and is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles and practices, as well as an anti-racist mindset. Reporting to the Director of Camp Chewonki for Boys, the Assistant Director is a member of the camp leadership team and a direct support role for the Director of Camp Chewonki for Boys. At the direction of the Camp Director, the Assistant Director plays an enhanced role in the onboarding of seasonal summer staff. Additionally, throughout the summer, the Assistant Director supports the vision of the Camp Director by mentoring staff to develop their problem solving and behavior management skills in order to work effectively with campers and ensure that cabin communities thrive. Additionally, the Assistant Director supports the camp community by working with the Director to ensure that DEI concerns are being addressed and worked through in a timely manner.

The Chewonki Foundation ( is a year-round, nonprofit environmental education center based on a 400-acre peninsula in mid-coast Maine. Our mission is to inspire transformative growth, teach appreciation and stewardship of the natural world, and challenge people to build thriving, sustainable communities throughout their lives. We offer a place-based elementary and middle school, a semester school for high school juniors, summer camps and wilderness expeditions, outdoor education programs, a youth mentorship program, and traveling natural history programs.

Schedule (hours and weeks): Full-time through August 17, 2021

Current Wilderness First Aid Certification (Chewonki offers course prior to camp season)
Valid driver’s license and driving record approved by Chewonki’s Insurance Carrier
Must pass Background Criminal Check


Attend Staff Training per Employment Agreement
Attend Driver’s Training


Experience working in educational spaces
Digital literacy (Google Workspace, etc.)
