Join us at our unique Farm Camps in the heart of the Hudson Valley in Harlemville, NY! Come live, learn, and be a “summer mom/dad” to our campers using your nursing skills. On your down time tour our gardens, hills, barns, kitchen and ponds; all located on a 500+acre Biodynamic Farm! Hawthorne Valley Farm’s Place Based Learning Center has an opportunity in our Residential and Day Camps for a nurse who has a love for the outdoors and working with children in a no-tech environment.
Hawthorne Valley Farm was envisioned as a place where children could experience a working farm and, through active participation, learn practical skills, develop social relationships, and gain a deeper sense of self and relationship to nature. Our program activities are designed to bring children and staff closer to nature, each other, and themselves, foster healthy food choices and build strong communities. Our kitchen features organic, home-cooked vegetarian meals.
This position is responsible for the medical needs of 48+ campers and 25 staff per session of camp: Dispensing meds, performing first aid, daily sick calls, record keeping, liaison with camper parents, accompanying children to doctors when needed. This position will also be our "summer mom/dad" to our campers by being responsible comforting homesick children; directing the flow of children to and from activities, ensuring proper attire is worn, etc. This position is a support position to the Camp Director. Requirements: Licensed RN and available to work for 8 or 7 weeks (depending on experience), experience working with children, responsible hard-working team player, strong assessment abilities. A familiarity with homeopathic medicines is helpful. Compensation includes a private room with shared staff bath and all meals.
Summer Camp positions begin June 18 and ends August 12, 2017. Start date can be flexible for the right candidate.
