Position Summary
Since 1990, Quail Hill Farm has been a leader in training young farmers in the practices of sustainable agriculture and community farming. The Education Coordinator (EC) is responsible for planning and executing a full-season (9-month) curriculum for our farm apprentices, organizing workshops for our farm members, and coordinating educational events and workshops with our community in East Hampton town. This is an hourly position and reports directly to the Farm Director.

Apprenticeship Program Responsibilities
Each year, Quail Hill Farm hires 4-6 advanced apprentices to work and learn alongside the QHF Manager and Director towards the cultivation of crops for a 250-member CSA Program, wholesale accounts and weekly farmers market stand. Typically, the advanced apprenticeship goes from mid-March until early December. The Education Coordinator will be responsible for planning and executing a curriculum that includes bi-weekly classroom opportunities and field walks with the Manager and/or Director. The EC will, therefore, be integral to the educational mission of Quail Hill Farm.

Farm Community Responsibilities
Our CSA members are essential to the spirit of Quail Hill Farm. Twice weekly, from June through Halloween, our CSA members visit the fields to harvest their share of vegetables. Given their central role in our community farm, the CSA members and their ongoing engagement with QHF will be a top priority for the EC. The EC will schedule programming concurrent with our Community Events, and work to enhance member engagement with the farm and farmers. The Education Coordinator is responsible for working in concert with the Peconic Land Trust’s Outreach Coordinator and Communications Director to schedule, plan and execute workshops and public programs for the CSA members.

Community Outreach Responsibilities
The Education Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining and building on QHF’s longstanding collaboration with sister organizations in our regional foodshed. These connections include educational institutions of all levels (including, especially, local schools), and nonprofit organizations including NOFA-NY, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the Amagansett Food Institute. The EC will be responsible for researching and securing grant funding and official partnerships with accredited institutions in order to support the QHF advanced apprenticeship, in concert with the PLT’s Development Director.

● 2-4 years of farming experience, with at least one season in a management position
● 1-3 seasons as an educator working with adults in a farm or garden context
● Completion of a formal, accredited farmer training program is preferred, but not required
● Willing to give and receive feedback in a professional context
● Comfort using Quickbooks, Microsoft Office suite, GoogleDocs/Drive
● Punctual, and able to work independently
