Program Description: Synergia Learning Ventures is a non-profit educational organization. Synergia programs help young people to develop their relationship with nature and wilderness, their social/emotional competency and self-knowledge. These programs combine the components of wilderness adventure, field study, and service learning. Synergia utilizes learning environments that include canoe journeys (moving water and flat water), challenge ropes course, rock climbing, backpacking, and ecological building construction and field projects.

Hiring for the Spring 2017 Trip Season March 14-June 20, 2017.
5-9 day wilderness and base camp trips for 8th grade classes, private and charter schools. Culmination and Rites of Passage trips based on unique Synergia curriculum and pedagogy.

Field Instructor
• Works with a team of instructors guiding middle school classes in wilderness and adventure settings
• Studies to learn Synergia curriculum, becomes proficient enough over time to teach it
• Learns and contributes to Synergia culture
• Leads cooperative games and activities with confidence and competence
• Participates in briefings and staff meetings
• Backcountry meal preparation
• Support Lead Field Instructor(s)
• Teach and practice proper gear use and care (canoes and related paddling equipment, climbing equipment, wilderness kitchen, etc.)

Required experience and qualifications:
• High level canoe or kayaking skills and water safety knowledge and practice
• Backpacking and/or back country experience
• College degree or commensurate life experience
• Experience working with youth

Required skills and abilities:
• Passionate about working with adolescents in outdoor adventure and experiential education
• Friendly, enthusiastic, patient
• Clear communicator
• Maintain healthy boundaries with youth and staff
• Well organized, able to juggle multiple activities
• Detail oriented
• Maintains confidentiality
• Strong “soft” skills and willingness to continually develop them with mentoring

Not required but considered a “plus”:
• ACA Instructor Certification
• WFR certification
• Challenge Ropes Course instructor: proficient in belaying, low ropes facilitation ACCT Certification
• Rock Climbing instruction, belaying, set-up. AMGA Single Pitch Instructor
• California Class B Commercial Driver License
• Waldorf educated

• Per diem compensation 80.00-120.00/day depending on qualifications
