The Community School seeks a lead collaborating teacher who is passionate and knowledgeable about the natural world, loves to be outside, and has experience working in a nature-based early childhood context. The lead collaborating teacher works closely with a co-teacher and an assistant teacher in crafting and facilitating place-based, forest school experiences, with an emphasis on social emotional learning for ages 4-6, in a class of 12 students. This is the first year of this program within the context of our independent grade school, and there has been overwhelming interest from our local community. We are looking for the right match to round out our teaching team and help launch this new class with purpose, passion, and a sense of wonder. The ideal candidate has experience developing curriculum and teaching emergently, is comfortable communicating with a community of families, and is an active collaborator within the class and school-wide teaching community. Located on Mount Desert Island and bordering Acadia National Park, The Community School cultivates a sense of self, place and community, serving grades pre-K-8th grade.
