The Chewonki Major Gifts Officer (MGO) holds a new leadership position in a growing Development Office with a strong team orientation and ambitious goals for the next five to ten years. This is an exceptional opportunity for a high-energy fundraising professional who wants to make a difference to join Chewonki at an exciting threshold, looking to the future and building support for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the organization.

The MGO helps in the design, development, and implementation of Chewonki’s major gift program. The MGO is responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects. They work as a member of the development team to implement and coordinate effective multi-year strategies and plans for donors. The MGO requires a commitment to Chewonki’s strengths and opportunities, exemplary communication skills, problem-solving ability, emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, and the ability to work independently.

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for building a portfolio of qualified donors and developing relationships. The MGO understands and applies the principles of developing donor strategies, is responsible for direct asks to meet funding needs, and listens for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts, or other gifts within our gift acceptance policy. The MGO provides opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving and will involve appropriate partners, either other program staff, board members, or other Chewonki connectors, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues or concerns, and directs questions as appropriate. The MGO is capable of representing Chewonki with authenticity and may be responsible for volunteer engagement within formal and/or informal networks. The Major Gifts Officer will be required to use Chewonki’s donor database and will participate in the development of proposals.
