Position Overview

PolicyLink is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the general ledger including revenue recognition and supporting the Controller with audit and tax preparation and the design and maintenance of adequate systems and controls. The ideal candidate will have functional experience in these areas in a fast-paced, complex environment.



Responsibilities



General Ledger

Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures.
Post small donor contributions and reconcile to donor database.
Support Controller with accounting for institutional contributions and program service revenue.
Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
Prepare monthly journal entries.
Reconcile intercompany accounts on a monthly basis.
Track and report fixed assets.
Banking

Prepare monthly reconciliations for all bank accounts.
Monitor positive pay exceptions and other banking activity for accuracy and completeness.
Audit and Information Returns

Prepare requested materials for annual audit and information returns.
Ensure compliance with all controls and procedures.


Other

Collaborate with Controller and CFO to develop desktop procedures and enhance control environment.
Perform ad-hoc reporting upon request.
Work with CFO and legal team to complete all required lobbying reporting on a quarterly and annual basis.
Reconcile semi-monthly payroll.
Maintain record-keeping for financial documentation such as grant agreements, W-9s, etc.
Develop a strong understanding of all accounting functions in order to act as a stand-in as needed.


Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Required

Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence through creating fellowship.
Strong strategic business acumen, change management, and continuous improvement champion.
Deep knowledge of Microsoft Excel and its use in analysis and data transformation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Education and Experience Qualifications

3 – 5 years of demonstrated nonprofit accounting experience; 501(c)(3) 501(c)(4) hybrid experience a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience.


Work Environment

Because of COVID-19 this position will be remote for the remainder of 2020. Once restrictions are lifted, the primary work location will be our downtown Oakland office (PolicyLink Headquarters).
Occasional weekend and evening work assignments.
May be asked to travel a few times a year, based on needs of the organization.

Full-time at 100% (exempt)
