Slide Ranch , Muir Beach, CA

Slide Ranch is a non-profit farm-based environmental education organization located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. We cultivate healthy bodies and minds and foster future generations of environmental stewards. By farming, cooking, caring for animals and exploring wilderness and the coast, we teach people of all ages to see the connection between their own health, a healthy food system and a healthy environment.
The 10-1/2 month Teacher-in-Residence position (7 positions) runs from late January to mid-December.
Slide Ranch’s Teacher-in-Residence program fosters and inspires the next generation of leaders in education, sustainable farming and environmental stewardship. Apply yourself for 10-1/2 months that supports your growth as an educator and steward, and prepares you for a meaningful career!

You will gain valuable, hands-on experience, professional development, and training in agricultural and environmental education while living and working with a dynamic group of about 18 people on a rural, coastal farm within a national park. Teachers-in-Residence customize and lead programs for Bay Area children and families from a wide range of backgrounds. Experiential education programs include both day and overnight visits, exploring the farm (pasture with sheep and goats, chickens, ducks, beehives and an organic garden), cooking, trails and tide pools.

The Teacher-in-Residence program trains seven people each year through a residential, hands-on teaching internship that includes daily teaching responsibilities as well as experience with organic gardening, animal husbandry, sustainable farming and facilities maintenance, with ongoing training in all areas. In addition to teaching, all interns actively participate in running the farm.

Teachers-in-Residence also learn about the operation of a nonprofit organization, help with fundraising projects, and provide support for various volunteer and fundraising events during the internship.
