Women's Health Program Director - Ft. Lauderdale Posted Jan 19
Progress Florida , Ft. Lauderdale, FL

Do you think Florida should lead the nation with smart, progressive policies that achieve the greatest good for the greatest number? Do you want to work to ensure that all Florida women have access to safe, affordable abortion care without shame or stigma? Are you committed to stopping policy-makers and right-wing institutions from inserting themselves into personal decisions between a woman, her doctor, and her family? Are you excited about using digital campaigns, creative media outreach, high-impact events, and other communication strategies to achieve these public education and advocacy goals?

Progress Florida and its sister organization, Progress Florida Education Institute, are seeking a full-time Reproductive Rights Program Director to play a leadership role on our abortion rights public education and advocacy work, to oversee our long-term work to destigmatize abortion and advance reproductive rights, and work in close collaboration with our allies in the fight for reproductive freedom in Florida.

Progress Florida and Progress Florida Education Institute are statewide multi-issue organizations working to win a more progressive Florida. We are an integral part of Florida’s progressive infrastructure specializing in new and traditional communications campaigns, strategies, and tactics. Reproductive freedom, with a particular focus on abortion rights, is one of our major issue areas and we’re seeking the right person to take our work on this issue to the next level.

Position location: Florida, with a preference for south or central Florida. We have a virtual office structure.

What You’ll Do
Representative responsibilities include:

Campaign Strategy: Help create winning strategies and powerful messaging for our abortion rights and reproductive freedom program. Develop both rapid-response and longer term campaign plans. Create political support for our reproductive rights agenda by assisting our communications director with research-based abortion-forward message development.

Media and visibility: Work each day to earn media attention in support of abortion rights by creating and pitching compelling news advisories, press releases, press statements, op-eds, letters to the editor and more. Organize media events and serve as a spokesperson for our organization at press conferences, editorial board meetings, radio/TV shows and in other media forums. Identify media opportunities and build and manage relationships with the press.

Digital outreach: Work with our digital team to leverage our email activist network and numerous social media channels to advance our abortion rights public education and advocacy goals.

Coalition building: Play a leadership role among the Floridians for Reproductive Freedom Coalition with an emphasis on providing communications support for the work of the coalition. Engage support from diverse and powerful allies and cultivate relationships with them in order to demonstrate the breadth and depth of support for abortion rights.

Advocacy: Take pro-active policies directly to key players, and expose the flawed policies pushed by our opposition to key players, wherever important decisions are being made.

Fundraising: Write grant proposals, build relationships with foundation staff and meet with major donors. Work with our citizen outreach and digital staff to build and develop a strong membership base to sustain our work.

Who We’re Looking For

You have at least five years of relevant professional experience. You have a demonstrated commitment to citizen-based, progressive social change, as well as a track record of leadership, independent decision making, and good judgement. You are a person who can work in a fast-paced environment to develop and execute creative, high-impact communications campaigns and projects. You have sharp political instincts, great interpersonal skills, and a good sense of humor.

Additionally, you have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and significant experience working with the media. You display a strong attention to detail and ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects. You are able to travel around Florida and on occasion out of state for meetings, trainings, and conferences.

You have advanced digital organizing skills. You know Florida’s political landscape as well as Trump knows his Mar-a-Lago golf course. Your passion for fighting the good fight is so strong it’s contagious.
